"I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that they are as few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit." John Steinbeck
As an Elementary Education Major with an endorsement in Mathematics, I look forward to helping children learn. Teaching will help me achieve my goals to inspire and nurture those around me. I hope to be a patient, knowledgeable leader with a willingness to grow and learn from others. In the past, I have not written career-specific documents but this semester I am looking forward to working on lesson plans. I do not have a lot of experience with professional writing but I look forward to gaining experience in the next two years.
I particularly enjoy journaling. Journaling has provided me with the opportunity to express myself. I enjoy it because it is something personal and I can write how I feel without others passing judgment. Also, I used to enjoy writing song lyrics as a child. Creative and expressive writing has remained my favorite style of writing. Conversely, I have always struggled brainstorming for academic papers. I enjoy writing for some of my English courses but struggle to write when I am uninterested in the topic. However, once I construct an outline, I approach the writing process with more optimism and ease.
I have failed at writing when I feel I have exhausted a topic. I cannot find new ways to analyze an argument and the length of my paper suffers. To prevent this, I need to pay more attention to detail and construct a more in-depth outline before I begin to write. The brainstorming process is the most important step for me and this step mostly determines if my writing is successful or not. I hope that in this course my writing improves with exposure to and practice with the writing process. Moreover, I hope to gain confidence in my leadership skills and develop my writing to advance in my professional career.
"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." Eleanor Roosevelt
